Polymer Clay
Faux Jade
Of the 2 kinds of jade, Jadeite only comes in shades of green, whereas nephrite can come in green, yellow, brown, black, lavender & even white. Jade has been carved and used for jewelry, buttons, weapons and art pieces for a very long time. Reproducing jade with polymer clay isn't done to save money but for the fun of the challenge! It is especially difficult to get the amount of translucency right, and to reproduce the "mooning" and the sometimes present inclusions. But when we succeed, it looks very authentic! It is then aged or "antiqued" using gold, white, brown or reddish paint and fired again in the oven to set it. Jade jewelry can have a glossy or matte finish.
Here are some pendants & beads I made, soon to be mounted into jewelry pieces and displayed here. Until then, I'm so proud of them, I just had to show them off! Thank you for looking!
